Touch of Foam

These series of three illustrations and designs were for a little Dettol campaign, called Touch of Foam, to get kids to wash their hands and that.  They were done as a PDF that parents could print off and tell a story to their kids, by using said cleaning product to create a character with puffs of foam on their hands. I'm pretty happy with how they turned out.  But I only had a few days to work on them, which is proper mental - would've been good to of had a bit longer.

Now, I know for the last few posts and months and that, I've been banging on about announcing some news about my children's book.  Well, hopefully that should actually come to fruition very soon.  I'm really excited about it and it's going to be great.

Responsive Portfolio Site

My updated portfolio site has just gone live! There's a whole bunch of new projects on there and also it's responsive, so you'll be able to see my crap on any device. Lucky you.

There's still a few things I need to tweak here and there, but it's pretty much done.

You can check it out here.

The Rainbow Code

This is a little site I designed for a project at work that launched yesterday. Basically you can get a bit of code, The Rainbow Code, to copy and paste into the HTML of your site, which will then put a rainbow and that across your site to show your support for gay marriage in Australia. Shit that was a long sentence. Cool thing is, is that the rainbows across all the sites are connected.

You can grab your bit of code here and read all about it.

Also, I liked my original title of the Gay Rainbow Thingy, has a better ring to it.

Also, be sure to check back soon have some very exciting news about my children's book, and also I'm just about to launch my new responsive portfolio site at the end of the week.

Chimps in Space!

At work they're introducing this thing called the 10% Project, where basically you can do whatever you want for 10% of your time.  But you need to pitch it to management and that first before you start faffing around.  So, my idea is for a mobile/tablet game going by the name (for the time being anyway) of Space Chimp.  It's about a little chimp astronaut, that whilst outside exploring, his ship gets taken out by an asteroid.  You now have to help the little monkey fella collect all the scrap pieces of his ship so he can rebuild and get back to Earth to his monkey missus.  I was originally going to do this as a children's book, but I thought it could work quite well as a game.

As part of my pitch to management I did a little style screen to show the feel and aesthetic of the game, which you can see below.

I decided on a pixel art style because it'll be quick for me to bang out assets, plus all indie games seem to be done in retro styles nowadays.  But I played around with adding in texture and shading, which I think gives it quite a nice look.  So hopefully it'll get made and you'll be able to play it on your device of choice sometime in the future.

Also, you'll notice that this blog is looking a tad different.  Well it's to reflect the new design of my portfolio site, which is being re-built at the moment.  It's not a huge change in design from my current one, I've just stripped it back and made it a lot easier to update with content - plus it's responsive  This is just phase one of the site as I have a lot of ideas and things that I want to try out, but I won't being doing the proper final site for some time, I've plenty of other shit to do.  But I need to get an updated site up, that's responsive and has all my latest crap on there.

Hopefully it should be up in a couple of weeks.

Some House Cleaning

I entered this years Annual Design Awards for best web design for my portfolio site. As part of that it's also up for the People's Choice Award. You can vote for it by liking it, tweeting it or Google+-ing it here. If you've got a spare tick to vote and share it with your peoples that would be wizard.

I've also put some new work up on my Behance this week. There's Brotherband, for which I illustrated a ton of swords and shields and what not for a microsite where you could create your own coat of arms. You can check out the site here. There's also an Audi iPad ad I designed, which is alright and a massive campaign I illustrated for Mortein and Louie the Fly. Finally, a microsite for GLACÉAU Vitaminwater that I designed and illustrated a while back - was rather chuffed with this design, you can check it out here.

There's also load of new stuff on my Dribbble and my store.

I've started some great projects recently and have some exciting news about my children's book that I did last year. So I'll be posting about that very soon.

New Prints Available

That's right.  I have some new prints available.  There are of the Holler boardroom illustrations I finished off last year.  I wanted to put them up before but thought I shouldn't because they were done for Holler, during work hours and that.  But my boss said it was fine the other day, so there you go.

You can grab prints, tees, skins and all other kinds of knick knacks of Ziggy, Hendrix, Jagger and Blondie at my store here.

Holler Christmas Card 2012

The Holler Christmas Card for 2012 is now live! Thankfully, before Christmas. This project was a lot of fun to work on, and we knocked it out in record time. I did the design and illustrations for it, and the devs did a brilliant job building it - there's some nice little animations in there.

Check out the site here and be sure to share the Christmas cheer and that. Are you naughty or nice?

Have a Merry Christmas and all of that. See you in the new year!

Art of Seduction

Wrapped up this illustration project recently, which was for Lancôme and was featured on one of their Facebook tabs. Basically it was to get more people on their Facebook page... I think. Anyway, we kicked it off with the Eiffel Tower as a starting point, and then every couple of weeks people could suggest additions to the illustration where I would then draw them in. Someone then wins it as a big old print at the end - lucky them.

It's pretty rubbish, it's not by any means the best thing I've done, but it pays the bills. When reading the title, Art of Seduction, make sure you say it in a husky sensual voice.

Below you can see the progression of the illustration from start to finish.

Holler Boardrooms

Finished this series of four illustrations the other week for the Holler boardrooms.  There's Bowie, Hendrix, Jagger and Blondie.  Each of which was assigned to one of the boardrooms, printed, framed and popped onto their respective doors.  These were a hell of a lot of fun to do, and I developed my illustration style further with this project; abandoning outlines and going with a clean vector look but with some shading to give it more depth and that, yet still retaining my original cartoon style.  You can check out progress shots of these guys here.

I'd love to sell these as prints, but I doubt that would go down to well with my boss...

I'll be posting up a few big projects before the end of the year, so be sure to check back soon. I've also started playing around with a new design for my portfolio site, which I hope to get up early next year.  Sick of my current one already even though it's only been up for six months or so. Just going to keep it fairly clean and simple this time, but more importantly the design/build will be responsive, so it's viewable on all devices.

There's some new prints on there as well, and you can now also get some of my stuff on tote bags for the hipsters, and throw pillows for the sexy times.

I'll be adding more stuff over the coming weeks so keep an eye, or two out.

Hamsters and Butchers

So I recently wrapped up working on two mobile apps for Cyberdesign Works.  I've done a fair bit of work with them in the past.  My first proper paid job was for them way back in 2009, when I was a bright eyed illustrator looking to draw rad stuff, now I'm a husk churning out Facebook tabs...

Anyway, the first app is called Harmonising Hamsters.  It's for little kids and that, which basically teaches them how to sing in four part harmony or something.  Basically I got to draw some hamsters, which you can have a gander at below.

The second...  is a tad weird, and I was a bit unsure whether to do this one or not.  It's called Crazy Butcher and it's basically like Fruit Ninja except instead of fruit it's animals you have to chop up.  Mmmm, yep, classy.  I told a mate of mine who's vegan, he threw up instantly and we settled his stomach with some lovely soy curd.

It's not the best work I've done, but it pays the bills.  I'll post up links when the apps are available and you can have a bit of an old play.

Enviro Press Nomination

The site I designed a while back for me uncle's printing company Enviro Press has been nominated on Awwwards!  So if you have any decency whatsoever, it would be absolutely wizard if you could go and vote for it and that.  Ta.

Junior Designer at Holler

Are you an increasingly rad design orientated sort of student person who wants to get into the graphic design industry?  Well, you're in luck, because we're looking for a junior designer, perhaps even a lowly intern to join the design team at Holler!  That's right, it's just that good an offer I had to use an exclamation mark.

If you think you have the ability to design nice things, and the sheer will to get along with other human beings who are somewhat passionate about all things digital, then send us your portfolio.  This will enter you into a tournament comprising of a series of challenges testing your kerning abilities, button creation and the might to make things "pop".  The two that make it through to the final round... will fight to death.  The victor will be showered with design work that they could only dream of in the deep dark recesses of their psyche.

If that idiotic rambling hasn't put you off, you can just email me and that.  Alright.

Instagram and That

Alright.  I've finally started an Instagram account... all that remains for me now is to grow a beard and wear a beanie during summer.  It's good though because I use to take a lot of photos for iStock, and also just for a hobby, but I haven't really had a chance of late.  So Instagram is a pretty good alternative to quench my thirst for photography.

You can follow me @fitzfitzpatrick where there's pretentiously angled nature and urban shots, plus shots of my work.  Below are some of the photos I've taken so far...

I'll be posting up some projects I've been working on soon, in the meantime you can check out bits of them on Dribbble.  Plus, there's also free shipping over at my store this weekend.  Today is the last day, so, you know, buy some of my rubbish.

Enviro Press

I designed this site for my uncle, who runs an environmentally friendly printing business.  It was built in Wordpress by the same fella who built my portfolio site.  He's done a brilliant job yet again.

Pretty basic stuff design wise, just kept it clean, colourful and simple, and somewhat fresh I suppose.  You can check out the site here.

I'm working on some fairly massive freelance and personal projects at the moment, so keep an eye out.

Han Shot First

Piece of Star Wars fan art I did for Ten Paces and Draw the other week.  Yes.  Han did shoot first.  You can check out the other illustrations here and also grab a print of this over at my store.

Also, in other news my portfolio site has gotten nominated for Site of the Day on CSS Design Awards.  Pop over, have a bit of an old look and give it a thumbs up!  You can vote for it here.

8-Bit Exhibition

So my exhibition, 8-Bit A Rad Exhibition for Geeks wrapped up a couple of weeks ago and by and large it was somewhat of a success.  I sold three out of the ten prints that were exhibited, so I was fairly chuffed with that.  Plus all of the people that came through seemed to really enjoy the work.  It was fun seeing people trying to guess which film was what, which character was who and so on.  Most people picked all of the films except for The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou!  Peasants.

Lot of weirdos knocking about though... I mean it was in Surry Hills after all.  There was one fella that kept on riding back and forth down the road on a bicycle with a parrot on the handle bars.  Every time he went over a bump the parrot squawked and scared the shit out of everyone.  Usual stuff.  Also the gallery was opposite a soup kitchen, which was rather grim.

Anyway, below are some shots of the work, of which I'm sure most of you have seen, although there were some new prints on display.  Plus it's rather nice to see a physical copy of your work, hanging on a wall and that.  I work in digital so vary rarely to we get to see our work nicely printed.

I have seven of these prints left, so if anyone is interested in buying one let me know, and we can work something out.  They're A2 prints on archival paper, mounted onto foam core, so you will need to get them framed if you want to treasure it for an eternity, otherwise they will warp.

As always, you can grab prints, tees, cards, tea cups and commemorative beer coasters from my store.
